Nationwide investigations are on to retrace the steps of David Headley, the man currently in custody in Chicago and suspected to be involved in terror plots against India.

A Special team of Delhi Police is in Paharganj to find more about Headley's terror trail in the city.

In fact, Headley's 26/11 links are becoming clearer now. It has been confirmed that he stayed at Mumbai's Trident, one of the hotels targeted by the Mumbai terrorists. He also stayed in Holiday Inn from March 7-8, 2009, in Room No. 205.

Meanwhile, police have found a photocopy of Headley's passport in a Delhi hotel, confirming that he indeed came to India and stayed in the city after the 26/11Mumbai attacks.

The passport which was issued from Washington has the India visa stamp on it and describes the terror suspect as David C Headley, Citizen of the United States. Headley had submitted his passport to the hotel while checking in.

Headley stayed in the Anand Hotel in central Delhi's Paharganj area, a popular haunt among foreign tourists. He stayed in Delhi from March 7-10 this year. From 8th to 10th March, 2009, he stayed at the hotel's Room No. 40. While staying in Delhi, he used to travel by auto and cycle rickshaws. No one ever saw him going by a car. Neither was anyone ever seen coming to either pick him or drop him.

The FBI had revealed in its chargesheet that Delhi's National Defence College was the target of the Lashkar-e-Taiba-Headley terror plot.

Earlier NDTV had learnt that Tawahar Rana, who along with Headley is now in the custody of the FBI in the US, had left Mumbai five days before the 26/11 attacks.

India will now ask for the extradition of both Headley and Rana who are allegedly linked to the Laskhar-e-Taiba and were planning major strikes on targets across the country.

Two days ago Intelligence Bureau (IB) sources confirmed to NDTV that terror suspect David Headley visited Mumbai eight times before the terror attack and once after the attack.

And his associate Tahawwur Rana was in Mumbai within a week of the attack - evidence that points to their possible involvement in the 26/11 attacks.
