Trio extend Somerset deals

Aug 17 2009 -

Somerset have agreed new contracts with fast bowler Alfonso Thomas and all-rounders Zander de Bruyn and Ben Phillips.

South Africans Thomas and de Bruyn have helped the county challenge on all fronts, while Phillips' campaign has been hindered by a number of injury niggles.

Director of cricket Brian Rose told the county's official website: "My object is to retain the group of players who have performed so consistently for us over the past few years.

"Zander had a fantastic Friends Provident Trophy campaign this season and, although his Championship scores have been middling, he is always in the game because he can come on to bowl very effectively.

"Alfonso has been a fine signing, not only because of his bowling, but because he is a tremendous influence in the dressing room in terms of determination and playing to win.

"He is rarely without a smile on his face and clearly loves playing for Somerset."
