ECB tight-lipped over Flintoff

Aug 21 2009 -

The England & Wales Cricket Board has refused to comment on reports that Andrew Flintoff requires knee reconstruction surgery.

Flintoff has already confirmed that he will retire from Test cricket at the end of the current Ashes series due to long-running knee and ankle problems.

The all-rounder has been named in the one-day side for seven games against Australia which follow the Test series and also September's ICC Champions Trophy.

However, a newspaper report on Friday claimed Flintoff was likely to undergo surgery immediately after the fifth Test which would effectively rule him out for up to nine months.

"We are making no further comment on his medical condition," said an ECB spokesman.

"We are leaving him to concentrate on the task at hand, which is on the field.

"As we have said previously an operation remains an option at the end of the series.

"He will be reassessed at the end of this current match."
