Had a pleasant small birthday dinner with the usual suspects for our #1 suspect, Leng leng.
We ate at District 10, and it was alright initially till they really tested my patience toward the end. We almost blindly paid over $50+ more on the bill and I was like wth? and went over the bill again to see that there were extra items that we did not order.
The ambiance and location of the place is swell though, a bistro cafe/bar in an old SCHOOL. LOVELY. I wonder how they got MOE to give it up to them to commercialise it.
Few of us went over to Changi Airport in the end for coffee and cake!
Waiting for Wendy to post up pictures on FB.
Recently my uni classmates and I were engaging in random banter before our classes start and we all fell in stride with the same topic of people belittling our course/school.
Well, it is true, we didn't score well thus we couldn't get into the local universities.
However, for a local student in a local university to point that out and deem it to be a superior point, well I truly pity that person for I think he/she would have failed in life.
A friend of mine recently commented that my professor was "very generous" when I told him I scored a distinction in a module but so did many people.
My uni friends when they heard this, they were like , "Wuuuuut?! That is so mean!"
Said friend still went on to comment that our work, such as writing essays, "just need to read and research then anyhow write in a different way can already".
*Uni friends going, "wuuuuuuuuuuut" again*
And when I mentioned that my school really provides class lecturers, all of them have many accolades under their belt, a quick google will show scores of results on them.
Said friend again said that every university professor has to have certain achievements in order to teach.
Yes, said friend is in a local university.
And when I snapped at him, he started saying I was sensitive.
And my uni classmates were telling me that their parents think the school work load is very slack, thus always asking them to do other things or go work.
And I find this really offensive, no offense to anyone.
I feel that I really did make a good choice in choosing the current university I am studying in and the way that the course reputation is upheld.
There is a mix of local and overseas lecturers and the local lecturers are not to belittled at especially when I saw the many titles attached to their name.
In a nutshell, truth to be told, I got into this university course with mediocre diploma grades and a lot of money, but this can only go to reflect on what our society's education system is really like.
I once attended a tuition center.
We had like, 4 students including me. 2 of the classmates were from what Singaporeans would deem, "Elite" schools.
I had a lovely math tutor called Ms April whom told us,
when we started to talk about school rankings and other related stuff.
Which is true.
It is a personal responsibility should you want to pursue education to benefit or enrich your life with the appropriate knowledge which in time to come you might possibly use, you do not use it as a tool to measure your self worth or lord over people. Education should be about synergizing society, to grow and be applied to good use and pursue only when you feel like you really want to , not because you need to.
JPJ once told me that in Singapore's society unfortunately, it is a well-known accepted fact that we aren't given much choices.
C'est la vie.
