Domestic Blitz

With Easter swiftly approaching, I felt again that primeval urge........

.......to spring-clean.

A quick trawl around the internet will find you numerous sites advertising 'spring-cleaning checklists'. You can, if you so desire, print them off and carry them round the house, presumably in your apron pocket, ticking off items as you go.

Sadly, they're not much use to me, being full of instructions such as:

Dust coils at back of refrigerator

and

Clean filters above cooker hood

Anybody carrying out a quick casing of the joint here would realise I need a more basic list, such as:

Scrape baked-on yoghurt from plasma screen TV using a flat-bladed knife....

or

Discard and replace all rabbit-chewed items, including bedding, shoes and various soft toys....

or even

Actually ENTER teenage bedrooms with a view to cleaning, rather than standing at the door thinking 'Dear God, whatever did I do to deserve this.......'

Anyway, I've made a start. And as I sat surveying what I had accomplished lastnight, I had to admit, it didn't look half bad.

Now, I just need to find a way of keeping this lot locked out till Easter Sunday............

My legs look pretty good on this one, don't you think?

The Coming Spiritual Conflict - Obama's 'Red' spiritual adviser

Shalom David Noebel:
Your commentary in WorldNetDaily entitled Barack Obama's Red Spiritual Advisor , is perhaps even more important that you recognize at present. FoxNew's Glenn Beck is predicting a coming revolution -- and if you will accept it, I was shown in spirit that he is correct. Yet, it is still within the power of the Church itself, to inhibit the further erosion of American's God-Given Constitutional Rights, and to greatly inhibit the further destruction of the Church. Obama has been hailed as the greatest gun salesman of all time -- and certain calibers of ammunition are not even available because the shelves have been bought out. And if Constitutional visionaries such as Glenn Beck is correct, then the blood sacrifice on the doorways will be caused by the complacent clergy who failed to lead the people in TheWay.
For years I have portrayed the Rev. Jim Wallis as a Marxist in clergy attire -- impersonating a follower of Jesus in order to bring about both the destruction of the Church and our country from within. One of my latest articles is entitled Jim Wallis Calls For Christians To Worship Caesar! -- but previous to this was Jim Wallis - Has This Man Sold Your Soul To The Devil? . But ultimately, the evil that Jim Wallis perpetuates, as well as the many Americans who will suffer, and the lives that will be lost, can only be attributed to the failure of the Church itself to maintain even basic Gospel teachings and spiritual principles. As an example: Take the recent case of Venessa Mills and her children who are being forced into the public school (see God's Indictment Of The Church ). If the clergy and leaders of the Church held to even the basic of Gospel principles, then the plight of this mother to protect her children from the spiritually depraved environment of the public school would not even be an issue. And what is required to inhibit the Marxism of men such as Obama, Wallis and Wright? School Choice could have long ago been brought about as a fundamental Constitutional Right by simply affirming that "faith apart from actions is dead" -- and the mindset, thinking and lifestyle of the child, IS the essence of the Practice of Religion. But the vast majority of clergy simply refuse to openly state this, because it would require the rejection of Martin Luther's salvation by faith alone, and Billy Graham's Jesus-prayer that is promoted as the total requirement of a Christian.
It is written that "My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment" (James 3:1 NKJ) -- and this is true because the plight of Christians such as Venessa Mills has been laid at the doorstep of the Christian clergy who have failed to maintain even basic Gospel teachings and requirements. The same Apostle who rejected the outward rituals of the Law of Moses as a means to salvation, also rejected the present-day doctrine of complacency -- i.e., "For it is impossible to restore again to repentance those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, if they then commit apostasy, since they crucify the Son of God on their own account and hold him up to contempt.. For if we sin deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful prospect of judgment, and a fury of fire which will consume the adversaries." (Heb 6:4-6;10:26-27 RSV). And this Gospel fact and reality is fully explored in the article entitled TheLie ( http://TheLie.org ). And even more important is the fact that the coming violence and upheaval could have been averted, if the Christian clergy followed Christ, rather than the doctrines of men.
The present struggle for the heart of our nation which is the very environment that ushered in the opportunity to openly promote the higher principles and teachings of the Gospel, is under attack -- and the conflict is the result of the collision of the spiritual forces that are attempting to rule this world. The field of battle is the hearts and minds of the children -- and it is the complacent Christians who are forcing the "little ones" into the spiritual killing fields where they are overcome. Who is responsible for their demise? The great truth is seen in the words: "It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones" (Luke 17:2 KJV). The fact that those who purport themselves to be Christian clergy, permit the "little ones" to be handed over to government institutions where they are then programmed into lives of carnal excess, immorality and spiritual depravity, can only be the works of an apostate Church.

I Can Find the Lord

I read about the birth of the Savior this morning, snooping around You Tube- I found a video that I really liked: click here.

Me and you and Pepé Le Pew

I was reading John Irving’s The Hotel New Hampshire in the bath and laughing out loud at State ‘o Maine’s acquisition of the taste ‘o canine – well, laughing as best I could under the circumstances.

Consider the tub, or a water trough that tries to pass as a tub by virtue of proximity in the little room known as the bathroom – a builder issue bit of fiberglass nonsense that generally has one prone with feet, tibias, fibias, femurs and an organization of other anatomical parts in an amalgam known as legs exposed as one seeks immersion of torso, an immersion that is never fully realized. The trough has a back that is near vertical and places one’s chin an inch from the top of the sternum while wheezing through a windpipe that feels kinked like a cranky, cold hose – all for the search of a bit ‘o warmth from the waters. This also leaves an expanse of flesh approximately 10” wide and 18” long from chin to just below the navel that needs the occasional hand generated wave in order to feel connected to the activity known as bath … little solace for the legs though.

I was laughing until the tears flowed and I could no longer read the words, I grabbed the wine glass from its tenuous perch on the soap dish handle and closed my eyes, visualizing the busted motorcycle being towed/escorted out of Falmouth with State ‘o Maine in the side car.

“Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrkkkk.”

I knew the “umpff” was coming and kept my eyes closed to keep the surprise alive as 12 pounds of Izzy lands on the micro acreage that was residing above the waterline.

“Umpff!”

“Purrrrrrrrrrrrr………..”

There were 10 little needles intent on performing catupunture and drawing the milk of Vlad Å¢epeÅŸ, portending a clipping in Izzy’s very near future. Remember, this is a 12 pound fur-ball that is trying to worm her way into some semblance of comfort that is involving my chest residing above the water line – all the while purring with abandon and feeling like she’d finally found “the spot” that her adopted sisters cannot, in any way, intrude. So much for the peaceful bath!

I started thinking, as she finally settled in (tail to the left or tail to the right of my face – wet tail? – don’t care – ohhh! Let’s slip a paw into the water as well! No matter that I’ll shake it all over the pages of the book!), of the remarkable day/evening it had been critter wise.

The first was wondering what the fresh turned earth was out by the green house. I finished my early morning ministrations regarding the animal’s gratuitous feed and very necessary water. Grabbing a cup of (very necessary) coffee I went to investigate the oddness by the green house. “Aliens” was the first thought and “crop circles” was the immediate next. I stood gaping at a trench 6 inches deep and 15 feet long. There was another similar disturbance past the big cactus, though not as long. It finally dawned on me that it was probably Redford. I’d recently read that a sounder could uproot a field or a yard in a night if they were finding some tasty morsel just below the surface – grubs, tubers or whatever. If I could only direct his efforts I wishfully thought. Who knew there was that much dirt in this property that seems to just grow rocks!

Second was a flock of nearly 20 goldfinches that’d finally discovered the much neglected finch feeder. This was the first time for gold finches in this yard. They were still in their winter plumage. I hope to see them all in their summer garb. There is also a pair of gold fronted woodpeckers and a pair of ladder-backs that have found our place amenable as well.

Third was an appearance by Pepé Le Pew. Like Redford, he’s not exactly a welcome guest; although this skunk is a regular enough visitor to have earned a name. Pepé was foraging around the back deck and Zoë was on the deck watching with, much to my horror, great curiosity – that cat curiosity that could land her in BIG, stinky trouble. Meanwhile the vulpine herd was milling about and looking expectantly for their dinner, Rocky was being a naughty raccoon and shaking seed from the bird feeder and Tiny Tim was hobbling around the little piles of corn that I’d just put out.

I waited until Pepé was out if sight before I opened the door to toss the bread to the fox. I stepped out onto the deck and realized too late that the stripped stink reservoir was just behind the rose bush to the right of the door. I froze in mid-step and in my paralysis I could only think that I would not want to see the underside of Pepé’s tail. Fortunately he ambled off, seemingly unconcerned with my presence. Even Tiny Tim seemed to accept my presence and offerings to the now squabbling vulpines.

Since all the fox don’t show up at the same time the yeasty Frisbee toss happens several times over the course of an evening. It was closing time at the Vulpine Café and I threw out a few extra pieces for the malingerers. I noticed an eye shine that was a little different in the understory – redder than the normal gold of the fox and green of the cats and raccoons. This was something new; although the eye shine was somewhat familiar it belonged to something I’d not seen before. I went back in and stood by the window hoping that this newcomer would come out. It did finally appear and at first I thought it was the tiniest fox I’d ever seen – it was not time for kits yet! It was moving with a hopping, sepentine motion that reminded me of a mink or a ferret. I wanted a better view and reluctantly turned on the flashlight, hoping I wouldn’t scare it off. It gathered up a piece of bread and when it turned I saw the stripped plume of a tail and I knew then that I was watching a ring tailed cat. “B” had just gone to bed when I shouted for her to come see! It came back for another piece just as she came in and she too was witness to our new critter. It seems very shy, but didn’t bolt under the torch light.

I’d seen the red/gold eye shine before, but thought it was just some trick of the light on the fox eyes. I’ve heard mention of the ring tails being in the area, but most folks have never seen one. I’m feeling truly blessed that it has graced us with its presence. Follow this link to see this cuter-than cute fellow!

All in all, it was a very remarkable critter day.

Izzy finally decided that she was wet enough and sauntered off to another room, probably to terrorize one of her unsuspecting sisters. I sighed and tried to sink even farther into the fiberglass.

After a ridiculously busy two weeks I felt in need of a little cheering up.

I had been eyeing a large mirror in the window of the charity shop, which, I decided, would look perfect in the loft, and, undeterred by the chest of drawers fiasco, I went in and bought it.

It took two assistants to get the mirror out of the window, and it quickly became clear that I wouldn't be able to carry it on my own.

I nipped back to get The Fixer, and we set off. The fact that we had to be rescued by Jim next-door-but-one will give you some idea of the size of the mirror.

We hauled it up to the loft between us, propped it up and took a step back.

The Fixer: God, Mum, it's MASSIVE! Why do you always have to buy the biggest thing in the shop?

Me: Do you think your father will notice it?

The Fixer: Maybe not, if he comes home REALLY REALLY drunk............and if he's been struck partially blind in the Mare and Foal this afternoon..........

In other news, we are now officially a house made up entirely of double figures.

The Noise is ten today.

Happy Birthday, Little One.

Take this Job and Love It

D1 wants a job. Like most people, money is her motivation. The other day I took her and her friend down to the local car wash. She heard they hire 14 year-olds, so we decided to start early in the search for summer employment.

With D1 in the front seat and her friend in the back, I drove them down the street while coaching them on what to say, what not to say, and how to stand, and how to smile, and who to ask for, and all other things pertinent to this life changing occasion.

When we arrived, I sat out in the car while she and her friend ventured inside to the office. A few short minutes later they emerged with white paper forms in their hands, explaining the manager was not in so they were to fill out the paperwork and return another time.

As we drove home, D1 reviewed the two-page generic employment application. After a minute she turned around to face the back seat.

"I hope they don't put me inside and make me do the books," she told her friend, "I hate paperwork."

Her friend nodded silently, barely looking up as she reviewed her own paperwork.

"Hmmm..." D1 continued a bit concerned after scanning the application further.

"I really hope they don't ask me to manage sales. That would be so boring," she concluded.

One of my necklaces has a photo holder charm, inside of which I have a small picture of DH. The photo was taken on vacation, and with his relaxed face framed with an uncommon-for-him and slightly sexy goatee, the picture has become one of my favorites.

Tonight when I leaned over to zip D3's pajamas, she spotted the necklace and shouted in surprise,

"Is that Dad?"

"Yes," I confirmed, "Isn't he cute?"

"No!" she exclaimed while looking at me like I had just suggested she drive the car.

"I'm cute," she emphatically corrected.
NRI Preeti Desai: new Miss Great Britain

London, Nov. 21, 2006
Rupinder Singh

Now Preeti Desai, 25, is new Miss Great Britain , who landed the title after being chosen by Sun readers to replace sacked original winner Danielle Lloyd. ( See her photo at the end of this page)

Preeti, 5ft 8in, the first British Indian to take the crown, reveals her success has been even sweeter because her beloved mum is now recovering well after a serious illness. She is from Guisborough, North Yorks, has been catapulted on to the world stage, where she will represent the country.

Miss Cleveland Preeti, who took the 5th position in the first contest, was picked from the 11 finalists. "It's a dream come true," The Sun quoted the 24-year-old, as saying.

—————————

  • Preeti’s family — Hema, dad Jitu, and her sister Anjlee, 21 — are understandably ecstatic at her win.
  • She describes her mum as her “rock” but for seven years Hema battled depression, attempting suicide twice. Preeti says: “It was awful seeing her in that state. We just wanted to help her.
  • “When I was 18, I decided to leave work and stay home full time with her. We wanted to see her smile again. That’s why winning this contest means so much, because it makes her happy — and that is priceless.”
  • Not surprisingly, 46-year-old Hema is Preeti’s biggest fan.
  • The pin-up decided to work for her father, who runs a fireworks business. She said: “You should have seen me there with my baggy jumper, old jeans and my hair scraped back. I certainly didn’t look like Miss Great Britain then.”
  • Preeti moved to London three months ago and is loving life in the big smoke. But, sorry lads, the beauty already has a special someone in her life, a boyfriend whom she has been seeing for two years.

As Preeti says: “When you’ve seen tears of real sorrow, tears of joy are a blessing.”

BIO

Preeti Desai wrote:

My name is Preeti Desai a British Indian and I'm from Guisborough, North Yorkshire but now live in London and love it!
I am Miss Great Britain, i was crowned after the public voted for me to replace the previous Miss GB after she was stripped of her title. I am so delighted and its a great honor to bring home the crown. Thank you to everyone for your votes, nice messages and support. I look forward to working with the Miss Great Britain Team.

Well i was born in middlesbrough on 29 september 1981 to two proud parents my mum Hema and dad jItu, i have a younger sister Anjlee who is 21 who is a singer/Dancer. I went to St Augustins RC primary school in Coulby newham, then Nunthorpe School and then on to Middlesbrough collage where i did a course in Hair and Beauty, When i finished i was offered work to build up a new salon then went on to manage it in a department store in Middlesbrough i also worked in another sister salon in Stocksley for 3 years till i decided it was time to move on. I then started and am currently working for the family business G2 Fireworks full time and i was made Jr partner, witch i did build up after years of working for G2 Fireworks from being a child. As it is all year round work for my parents, me and my mum handle the retail side of things on Borough Road, Middlesbrough.

I went into beauty therapy and managed a salon for three years before deciding I needed a change.

—————————————

Hema:

Hema says cultural problems kick-started her descent into depression. After getting married, she arrived in England in 1980 and she and Jitu settled in Middlesbrough.

Preeti and Anjlee were amazing. Preeti sacrificed so much for me. She looked after me, fed me, clothed me. She looked after my younger daughter and the house.

“It was like she became the mother and I the child. If it hadn’t been for her I don’t know what I would have done.”

Hema described the heartbreak of hearing Preeti say when she was little: “Don’t worry, Mum, we’re not boys but we’ll make you proud.”

Wiping away tears, she adds: “Preeti lived up to her word. She has always done her best for me.

“When she was crowned Miss Great Britain she rang to tell me and said, ‘The crown is for you.’ I burst into tears. I feel as if I have won that crown. I feel as if I am Miss Great Britain. She only wants to see me happy — both my girls do. They want to see me smiling and it is thanks to them I was able to overcome that dreadful illness.”

She said, she belong to a small village, speak a little English l, and she had lot of problems within the family. I had two daughters but people in the family didn’t like this. In my culture, when a son is born there are celebrations, but for girls they say good luck next child.

Every year on my birthday, Preeti takes me abroad for an exotic holiday. Preeti and Anjlee were the only Asians at their school in Middlesbrough. Due to her raven hair and exotic skin tone, Preeti got lots of attention. People were always telling me that Preeti should go into modelling, even she was little.”

I sent Preeti to a Roman Catholic school and we celebrate every religious holiday such as Diwali, Eid, Christmas, and we respect everyone’s God.

Danielle Lloyd, 22, lost the Miss Great Britain title she won in February

after it was discovered she was sleeping with one of the competition judges at the time of the final last February Lloyd had claimed she met her now boyfriend and ex-England footballer Teddy Sheringham on the night of the competition, but in a new interview with Eve magazine she accidentally revealed that she spent last Christmas with Sheringham.
