Musical Monday: Al Stewart

Today's Musical Monday is dedicated to French Fancy who suggested featuring Al Stewart but with the proviso it was not his hit record "Year of the Cat", which although his most popular isn't his best work. I've chosen two of his songs although my first choice would have been Zero She Flies, but I couldn't find it on YouTube.

Al Stewart, actually, is a little before my time. And my preference is for blues/rock rather than Al Stewart's crafted songs. I was introduced to Al Stewart by a girlfriend: she was 23 and I was a young pup of 18. We made love to the sounds of the LP "Zero She Flies" in the background. Ah, happy, innocent, drug-fueled, alcoholic daze! I later discovered that the Led Zep lead guitarist Jimmy Page was used as a session musician on Al Stewart's 1969 album "Love Chronicles".

The first song this Monday is "A Small Fruit Song", which was on the album "Zero She Flies" (1970) and the second is "On The Border" off the album "Year of the Cat".

Al Stewart has been recording since the mid-60s and continues to this day. A great songster and his songs with historical themes are a joy.
