New Delhi: Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram's wife Huma passed away in Chennai on Sunday. She was 42.

Huma was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday after her condition worsened while an air ambulance carrying her to Singapore from Lahore made a scheduled refuelling halt at the airport.

Huma had suffered a multiple organ failure and was put on ventilator support in the hospital. She was originally scheduled to receive treatment in Singapore.

Huma was suffering from sepsis (an inflammation of several tissues, including blood leading to kidney failure) and was admitted to Apollo Hospital.

Akram was married to Huma for 14 years and the couple have two sons, Taimur and Akbar.

A trained medical practitioner herself, Huma had a stint with some of the leading hospitals in Pakistan as a psychologist and a hypnotherapist.
