Today, after a few seasons, Delhi will once again see one fashion week — Wills LifestyleWIFW India Fashion Week — where some of the designers, who chose to present their collections at the rival Delhi Fashion Week will be back to showcase on the WIFW platform.

This time WIFW will also have a VVIP guest — Didier Grumbach. Monsieur Grumbach, as he is addressed in Paris, is the president of the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture (governing body of Paris Fashion Week) and is considered ‘God’ by all in fashion. “There’s no doubt that India has started influencing occidental fashion and few Indian designers have become international,” says Didier. “However, as far as fashion weeks in India are concerned, I hope they won’t be too international and they will keep their own flavour,’’ he adds.

This season, WIFW has some of the best designers in the business under its ambit, in a show that looks set to be the biggest ever.

There are 110 participating designers at the event, out of which 68 will showcase on the ramp. Out of the total 175 registered buyers, 75 are international buyers, including several teams from Japan and one from the prestigious Begdorf Goodman from New York.

"This is the biggest show ever in the history of fashion weeks in India," says FDCI president Sunil Sethi. A lot will depend on how disciplined the designers are. Celebrities on the runway, which has become a norm, alone cannot sustain business if not amply supported by saleable creativity.
