Charlie Davies Car Accident

USA and Sochaux striker Charlie Davies was involved in a horrendous car crash early on Tuesday morning, and The Washington Post has claimed that the player was only out because he had broken a team curfew.

Few details of Davies’ evening have become clear as yet, but it is known the scale of the incident he was involved in, which occurred at approximately 03:15 local time. Ashley J. Roberta, 22, was killed in the one-car crash.

According to police spokesman David Schlosser, who was speaking to the newspaper, “The car was pretty much split in half.”

The list of injuries suffered by Davies is truly appalling. The 23-year-old suffered a broken tibia and femur in his right leg, as well as perforation of the bladder, a broken left elbow and multiple facial fractures, according to France Football. In total, he underwent surgery that lasted around five hours, though he will need further operations to completely correct the damage done.

Moreover, the player’s World Cup dreams are over, as he faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines, and retirement is a possibility. “Injuries of this nature require a recovery period of six to 12 months and a long rehabilitation,” national team doctor Dan Kalbac noted.

Sochaux have released a statement that indicates the player’s life is “not in danger”. In addition, the Ligue 1 club stated, “"Well beyond the sporting blow that the absence of Charlie Davies will represent, the thoughts of FCSM go to the player and his health, but also to the family of the deceased in the accident.”

The USA are scheduled to take on Costa Rica in their final World Cup qualifier on Wednesday evening.
