Kent captain Robert Key has admitted that it would be a dream to be handed a call-up for England's crucial fifth Ashes Test against Australia.
The 30-year-old right-hander is being talked of as a possible replacement for the out-of-form Ravi Bopara, having played in 15 Test matches earlier on in his career.
He told BBC Radio Five Live: "It's just a bonus if I did get to play because if I didn't get any runs I'd probably end up going back to county cricket and nothing much would be different.
"So there's not much to lose for me in it and I could be out there and I get runs or I don't.
"If I get runs it might help England win the series or it might not, so I'm not too fussed.
"I've had a decent two months, I had a shocking start to the summer. I feel like I am playing as well as I ever have done.
"What the media says is not always right so we'll have to wait and see.
"It's something you dream about doing, coming in for one game and potentially trying to win the Ashes. It would just be fantastic."
